Uganda has lost approximately two-thirds of its forests over the last three decades. Now the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) has warned that if deforestation is not stopped within Uganda, as the current rate there will be no forests remaining in 30 years.
Deforestation will reduce the nation’s food security. Agricultural productivity will be disrupted by erratic rainfall, rampant floods and depleted water sources. Those hardest hit will be the poorest people living in rural areas. Livelihoods will be destroyed. Disease and conflict will inevitably increase.
Trees in Uganda are being spared from exploitation as a readily-available fuel source, as institutions and industries start using Biomass Briquette. Our Biomass Business project relies on agricultural waste materials, which have no further useful purpose, to create an alternative source of fuel, thus saving trees.
“Using our briquettes reduces the pressure on wood resources and thus reduces deforestation, which is a serious and growing problem” Abasi K. Musisi, KJS Managing Director
Biomass Briquettes combustion has reduced CO2 emissions compared to the burning of charcoal and firewood. Each tonne of Briquette used will save 6.1 tonnes of CO2 emissions polluting the atmosphere compared to traditional fuels.
